Steel Time

Building upon my recent addition of cast-iron, a replacement of pots that should have sought retirement years ago, has been undertaken. A couple 3 or 4-quart pots used for our everyday cooking had seen better days so I set out to find suitable Made in USA replacements that met similar material and production standards outlined in Cast Iron Rules.

I had heard good things about stainless clad cookware, so I was glad to have found a company in the U.S. producing steel pots. Family-owned Heritage Steel, in Clarksville, Tennessee has been producing stainless clad cookware for 40 years. From frypans and skillets, sautes and sauteuses, to stockpots and rondeaus, Heritage Steel’s offerings are plenty. They have two series of their steel cookware - the Eater Series and the Titanium Series. The Titanium series is their premium offering, made with a titanium-strengthened 316Ti steel while the Eater series is fashioned with 304 (18/10) Stainless Steel. Both promoting quality craftsmanship, shoppers must decide whether the Titanium series, boasting better corrosion protection and durability, is worth the premium.

I decided on the Titanium series with my goal of building a quality cookware inventory to last a lifetime. The 3 Quart Saucepan with Lid met the requirements for a much needed replacement. Made in the the USA with a lifetime protection warranty, it would be perfect for steaming vegetables, cooking grains, and crafting sauces.

As I upgrade my cookware, I’ve realized that securing a long lifetime from these products does require a bit of TLC. Whether it’s seasoning practices or cleaning guidance, some additional items may be necessary. I added the suggested cleaning kit that would help maintain my cookware’s cleanliness and still-new look.

After a few nights in the kitchen, I am very happy with the decision on Heritage Steel. The clean look of the steel, the durability of pot, and the evening’s tasty food have given me a strong reason to recommend this company and its products.
