Darn Tough is Right

When I cataloged my closet, I did not include my sock collection. Tags on socks are few and far between so it’s difficult to identify their country of origin outside the initial purchase which likely came with packaging. While not knowing the origin of my socks, I can pretty confidently assume many were produced outside the United States. I mostly choose my socks for function, with style or design serving a distant third selection criterion after comfort. Since socks are often hidden under pant legs, function generally wins out every time.

Whether it’s dress socks, athletic socks, or everyday socks, everyone wears them. Our collection of companies producing socks in the United States is growing. From organic cotton to merino wool offerings, socks for a variety of functions can be found there. Living in the midwest and subject to cold weather, my needs often require a sock to provide warmth in the winter months, but also function for winter activities.

As an avid snowboarder, I require unique socks to provide the right level of comfort, warmth and length. The socks must be warm enough to handle those bone-chilling Montana days on the mountain, but also comfortable enough to play nice with snowboard boots. Not too thin or too thick, and long enough to rise up the calf.

Enter Darn Tough. Darn Tough has been manufacturing socks since 2004 and currently produces out of their facility in Waterbury, Vermont. From Hiking, Running, Lifestyle, Ski & Snowboard, Hunting, Work & Tactical, they’ve got you covered. Specializing in Merino Wool, you can’t go wrong with their offering of socks for all occasions and activities.

Men's Captain Stripe Over-the-Calf Midweight Ski & Snowboard Socks

I recently picked up a pair of patriotic snowboard socks from Darn Tough and took them for a 3-day spin at Whitefish Mountain (aka Big Mountain) in Montana. The temperatures on the mountain were uncharacteristically warmer than normal, so I couldn’t confirm how the socks will hold up in frigid temps; however, I can say they fit great, looked great, and performed well from a functional perspective.

I’m well on my way to ensuring each replacement sock I purchase is Made in the USA and Darn Tough will be a top choice to choose from. An added bonus? They offer an unconditional lifetime guarantee. They claim if these aren’t the longest lasting socks you’ve ever owned, you can return them for another pair. No receipt needed, just the pair in question!
